Visit & view the part of Georgetown that was part of the conflict that finally established the United States as a country and not just a former British colony. Tickets include a tour of Dumbarton House. Note: This walking tour does not include access inside any other sites. DETAILS: •Meet at the corner of Q and 27th Streets, NW (by the east garden gates of the Dumbarton House, the tour will start at 12:00 pm sharp. It will take place rain or shine and will last 2 hours. •You are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance. In May 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a bill that made it legal for the first time since 1917 to sell hard liquor to patrons standing at bars in the District of Columbia. Shortly thereafter many bars opened and students, senators & secretaries streamed through the doors of establishments such as Clyde’s, Mr. Smith’s, Mr. Henry’s, Chadwick’s, The Cellar Door, The Bayou, Blues Alley, Champions & Martin’s Tavern just to mention a few. Join Dwane Starlin, member of the Guild of Professional Tour Guides, as you learn all about the bustling nightlife of Georgetown, past and present. Local yoga instructors Alia Peera and Amy Mitchell host our 4th annual summer yoga series in at Dumbarton House. Our grounds provides a serene, outdoor space for this 60 minute all-levels vinyasa flow class that should be fun and challenging for both experienced yogis and yoga skeptics alike! Attendees should bring their own mat and must complete a waiver to participate. A $5 cash donation per person is suggested for the class. Please give donations directly to the instructor. Reservations are not required but are encouraged. Donations to Dumbarton House for providing space are welcomed, donate online or in the museum after the class. Class will be canceled if rain is forecast at or after 8:00 am the morning of class. Come experience Dumbarton House in a whole new light! Dumbarton at Dusk is a new evening program the third Thursday of every month. Tour the museum after hours and experience our grounds in a different light. In July we will celebrate beloved author, Jane Austen! Create and take home your own Jane Austen inspired masterpiece as you interact with other fans of the author. Play battledore with your friends in the north garden while enjoying live music from Tommy Rueckert. Enjoy food and a cash bar from Geppetto Catering.
